It’s a Win for India! Four Indian Women Win Gold Medals, and One Bags the Silver from the Asian Boxing Championship in Amman, Jordan

On Friday, India was represented in the Asian Boxing Championship that is currently going on in Amman, Jordan. Lovlina Borgohain won a gold medal in the 75kg competition category, Parveen Hooda won hers in the 63kg competition, Saweety Boora in the 81 kg game, and Alfiya Pathan in the 81kgs category.

Throughout the tournament, India has taken home a total of 12 medals which include four gold, two silver, and six bronze. Women have won seven medals. This medal has seen India emerge as position 5 in the women’s category.

Wins for Parveen, Lovlina, Saweety and Alfiya

World championship bronze holder Parveen beat Japan’s competitor Ma Kito 5-0 in the game. Her excellent footwork and ability to deliver accurate hooks and uppercuts came through.

For Lovlina, she did so well considering that it was her first international event after she started competing for the 75Kgs. She is a Tokyo silver medalist with significant attacks that made her defeat Uzbekistan’s Shokhiba even after she became more aggressive.

Former world’s silver medallist Saweety delivered higher punches that made her secure a 5-0 win over her opponent. She was competing against Kazakh boxer Gulsaya Yezhan.

The 19-year-old Alfiya, also the world youth champion of 2021, smoothly secured her win in the 81 kg category. She was playing against Husaili from Amman, who was disqualified during the first round for biting Alfiya’s shoulder.

Shiva Thapa Won a Silver Medal

Well, Shiva Thapa tried so hard to secure his win. He won a silver making it his 3rd silver medal in his sixth tournament. This win has made him history’s most successful male pugilist.

Shiva was competing against Abdullaev Ruslan in the 63.5kg category. In the second round of playing, he sustained injuries on his right knee, so Ruslan was declared the winner.

In the 52kg women category, Minakshi lost to Japanese Rinka Kinoshita, a 2017 world youth bronze medallist. She got a silver medal similar to Preeti, playing in the 57kg category, and Ankushita Boro got a bronze medal in the 66kg game.
