7 Strange Things Dogs Can Sense (#4 Will Shock You!)

Have you seen your dog get excited even before you take out the treat from your pocket?

Do you find them hiding behind the couch when a storm is coming?

Does your pup start showing his love for you whenever you feel down?

If you have observed any or all of this behavior in your canine friend, you are right to wonder the reason behind it. Plenty of people have observed and believe dogs can sense things that we humans cannot. Since they are more aware of our surroundings than we are, their senses are far outrun than our tiny human abilities.

Dogs do not have any supernatural powers, but their ability comes with some scientific explanation. Here we have compiled a list of strange things that dogs can sense.

Bad Weather

People who live with dogs will know that dogs can detect bad weather. They start barking and cuddling as and when they sense the weather changing for bad. Whether it is thunderstorms or rains, they can feel it much sooner than we do.

A simple science behind this is that dogs can sense any shift in static electric field and the drop in barometric pressure that indicates adverse weather conditions.

Not to forget, dogs have good hearing senses. Also, they can hear the sound of thunder from far away before we can hear them.

Earthquakes

Dogs can sense an earthquake before it happens. It has been a belief since ancient times that dogs start howling before an earthquake comes. In Japan and China, dogs are a vital part of detecting earthquakes early.

Many experts believe that the ability of dogs to sense earthquakes is associated with their keen hearing ability. They can hear sounds from farther away than our human ears can.

If you are a dog owner, you may notice that your dog is inexplicably afraid of some spots in your home or acts strange at some spots. This behavior may be associated with many reasons like they heard something threatening there or something traumatic happened with them there. They start associating their fear with that spot.

Sense Bad Mood

With the help of visual cues, dogs can sense our mood, whether we are happy or sad.

Dogs are great at reading our body language. They notice our smile, our posture, and even the size of our pupils.

Since they develop a close emotional bond with humans, your doggo always tries to read your mind and mood. They also sense our elevated stress levels smelling our sweat.

Detect Disease

It sounds awkward, but it is a fact that dogs can detect diseases in humans. They have a complex olfactory system that helps them sense the scent that we can never notice.

The 300 million olfactory receptors in the nose of dogs increase their sense of smell 10,000 to 100,000 times more than humans. Their senses are so strong that they can sometimes detect cancer as well as pregnancy.

Danger

Dogs are sensitive to pheromones which makes them capable of predicting possible danger. They notice the body language and facial expression of a person and get to know about their intentions. So if your dog detests a particular person, they must have sensed some danger around or with them. By disliking, he indicates a potential threat from that person. It is also the reason why dogs are included in the bomb squads.

Sense Bugs

Many pest control companies have started relying on trained dogs to find hidden bugs. Some research shows dog’s ability to smell bed bugs and termites. However, it depends on how well the dog is trained.

It’s marveling how our furry friend can sense and see strange things. Dogs are really one of a kind, aren’t they?
