Oud The Wood of Gods

Oud, also called Agarwood, is one of the precious perfumes of the Middle East. Oud fragrance is often known as heavenly and divine.

The characteristic oud fragrance is produced from trees of the genus Aquilaria belonging to the Thymelaceae family when they are infected by a specific mold. To protect itself, the tree ejects a resin. The resinous heart of the wood is soft, odorless to dark, and aromatic. The infection spreads from the trunk to the roots turning the tree dark brown or black.

The oud workers meticulously cut the pieces of the infected trunk into small pieces to extract the resin. Further, the pieces are soaked in water for a few days and dried for the next 2 to 3 days. Finally, the resin is extracted using different methods to obtain high-quality oil. The final by-product is an essential oil with a woody scent.
