We often order our food online and have a seamless delivery. The rider leaves us to enjoy our food alone! Now, the case is different for this college student!
She placed her order on Zomato but somewhere along the way started ordering using the Dunzo app. The man who delivered the order arrived at around 9.30 pm, asked the lady for water and got into her house. Upon returning, the man snatched her arm and kissed her twice.
She resisted which prompted the man to leave. But he could not leave her alone at all! The delivery guy sent a message to her saying he was “like her uncle.” This is per a statement by Jagannath Janka, the area police who receive the girls claims.
“The woman came to us with a friend, and we managed to arrest the accused the same night. The court the next day granted him bail. He had no previous criminal record.” The police added. The man was charged with sexual harassment.
Zomato claims that the delivery agent did not work for them and will be cooperative in the investigation. On the other hand, Dunzo is yet to speak on the matter. There is an ongoing probe to determine how one can order from one app and end up interchanging it to another.
As for the victim she could not speak to the media as she was petrified and anxious. “After the incident, we counseled her and helped her go to the police, so that no one can dare do such a thing again.” The landlord told NDTV.
The police officer said that it’s vital for apps to properly verify who they are working with. Further, he stated that there are young people living alone in several areas on Pune where many educational
institutions are located. He advised them to be careful before trusting anyone when alone and at night. “Always have the friends or police’s phone number in your mobile phones in case of an emergency.” He added.
