Choose a theme based on the favorite movie, TV show, character, or book of the guest of honor. A theme can be as simple as featuring a color or their favorite hues. Decide the venue, invitation, decorations, food, music, and games according to the theme. Do thorough research as you cannot get the input of the guest of honor.

  1. Choose a venue they admire

The surprise party venue depends upon the theme decided for the party celebration. Also, choose the venue depending upon the number of guests you are going to invite. For example, book a restaurant party room if you are planning a small dinner party with closed ones. Home of the guest of honor or their favorites can also be a great idea. But think before you use the home of the guest of honor to throw a surprise party as they may not appreciate having guests at home without cleaning it first.

  1. Send invitations smartly

Nothing is worse than a spoiled surprise. So keep the invites a secret. Talk about your intentions in code words and make sure all involved persons know the secret lingo. Design customized invitations from scratch on Canva that suits the theme and their style.

Keep the invitations digital with email or on a private Facebook event as physical invitations can be risky to spoil the surprise party. Include time, date, venue, and other required details in it. Remember to add the word surprise in bold and big fonts in the invitation so that no one accidentally talks to the guest of honor about the party.

  1. Plan catering for foods and drinks

Parties usually revolve around the food. So put some extra thought while deciding the menu. The food must be from their favorite restaurant. And if you want to host a party menu with homemade foods, cook their favorite dishes. Serve mocktails/cocktails and foods if the party is being hosted for adults. If the surprise party is for kids, serve cupcakes, cookies, punch treats.

  1. Plan a fake event

Fake an event to keep your guest of honor distracted. Plan an event they already know about. It will also ensure that the guest of honor is well-dressed for their surprise birthday party.
